War Horse--A Review

It’s hard to adequately explain the impact “War Horse” can have on someone. At first glance or when first hearing of it, when the word “puppets” comes up someone can become a little apprehensive. But it’s a lot more than just the hand puppets someone is normally used to. I’ll be the first to admit, I kind of had an image in my head of a horse puppet running around with someone carrying it looking crazy. Not sure if this is relevant, but I related it to the movie “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” and the end when Peter, the main character, puts on his ridiculous “Dracula: The Musical” performance with people carrying the puppets wearing black body suit type leotards. Yes, that sounds ridiculous and I honestly thought that is what I was in for. When Olmert told us we had no hearts if we didn’t cry, I kind of just chuckled like, “Yeah, right Olmert. Puppets making someone cry? OOOOOOOOO-kay.”
But he was right.
When first walking up to the theater going into the play you’re met with a poster and on it you see nothing but the two brown eyes of a horse and with an unmistakable tear in his eyes. Surrounding the picture are various reviews from different reviewers including one that said “It will leave you crying all the way back to your car.” Among others commending the play for its beauty and ability to capture the emotions of the audience. I gave up on trying to make the connection between the emotional state and puppets and decided to open-mindedly go into the play.
War Horse is an experience in itself—yes, there are puppets. But they are more than puppets. The puppets come alive and make you believe you’re seeing live horses on stage. The emotions the characters feel for these animals are amazing. You begin to think differently about those animals you have  at home or the animals you see roaming the streets. The connections between the animals and the main characters leap off the stage and are right in front of you—the emotions are palpable. That is another thing about this play—you can see the emotions between the animals and the characters and it’s so cool. The puppet horses display such emotions in their movements that you know what they’re thinking without them having to say anything. Displaying emotion is something many actors have issues with so seeing puppets do it was miraculous.
War Horse is amazing—there isn’t much else to say. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, and you’ll want to go out and buy a horse. At the globe theatre today, an eight-year old boy describe it perfectly—when I asked him what he liked about is so much, he just smiled and said, “It was just so moving.” And for once, I agreed with an eight-year old.
This is how close we were--third row!!

Review: Z-Palettes

Hey everyone!!

So--I have something to tell you.

I AM OBSESSED WITH Z-PALETTES.

And I am SO not afraid to admit it. I was a little apprehensive at first but after doing some research and watching tons of reviews I decided--let's try these suckers out!! AND I AM SO GLAD I DID! These palettes are amazing. AMAZING. I love them--did I mention I love them? Yeah, I do. They can hold so much and not only that, they can hold things of all different sizes. Now, I am a MAC-aholic--duh. But, MAC SCHMAC when it comes to their palettes. Z-Palettes FTW! These palettes can hold 26 MAC eye shadows in one as opposed to 15 in a MAC palette and 9 shadows in a smaller one as opposed to 4 in a MAC one. Hello? So much better. And I know what you're thinking--"But Lauren! They are more expensive!" And YES! They are! BUT SO WORTH THE EXTRA MONEY! They hold more, they can hold things of different sizes, they come in adorable prints, they don't get as dirty, they have a clear, easy view opening, and they are so handy to travel with. I cannot express to anyone how much I love my Z-babies.

GO out and buy these. Right now. If I was Professor X from X-Men I would MAKE you buy them. But since I'm not and I can't I'll just have to trust the fact that you're convinced by now and you're going to jump on the Z-Palette band wagon. Just in case you're not, here are my babies:

Here is my empty Zebra palette -- $20

Here is my (usually) full MAC shadows palette in the Cheetah print -- $20

Here is my Black palette with pressed MAC pigments (probably won't stay like this..) -- $20
And here is my bad-mamma-jamma (and clear favorite) Pro Palette with my travel makeup -- $28

Seriously, guys. Go on the Z-Palette Website and check them out. They have great shipping and customer service. I give them 10 out of 5 stars. LOVE LOVE LOVE!

Let me know what you guys think, too.

Lauren

Ulta Haul -- Glitter Cream Swatches

Hey guys! I just uploaded a video about my Ulta haul that I went on with my momma. We had so much fun and got so much good stuff for only $40!! The things I am most excited about are my NYX Glitter Cream Palettes. These are so much fun--glitter can sometimes be intimidating but these are so awesome, I absolutley love them. I think glitter goes really well with summa' time so I'm excited to have these on hand for those fun nights out. Here are some swatches that I hope will convince you to buy these palettes for $5.99 each (I plan on getting all of them, haha!):

First up, the SWEET CHOCOLATE BROWNS palette:

From left to right we have:

a lighter mahogany brown color
a perfect gold color
a light pink color
a burgundy / dark brown color
a peachy-tan color

Again, the colors from left to right are the same as above but these are what they look like on the skin. They're pretty darn thick and have awesome staying power. I LOVE the pink and gold. And the peach color. I just love this whole damn palette, haha!

Second, we have the OCEAN BREEZE palette (my absolute favorite):

From left to right:

a light baby blue color
a brighter blue color
a periwinkle color with rainbow glitter color
a royal blue color
a gorgeous turquoise color

Same as above, here are the colors from bottom to top (sorry, haha). Love this palette--LOVE, LOVE, LOVE!

Expect tutorials for all three of the glitter cream palettes (I also have the bronze goddess one) for summer time. I hope you enjoyed this quick post and I'll talk to you guys soon!

Sorry I suck at this!

HAPPY EASTER!

I figured it's been forever since I've blogged so I thought I'd do a quick update. My YouTube channel is officially up and running which I think is a reason I've been neglecting this blog. I've gotten a ton of videos up on there so really this has kind of taken a backseat! But I've got a lot of videos up so everyone should check it out!

Also, I'm officially going to London! I leave on June 11th and get back June 31st. I am beyond excited and I have to keep a blog for the trip so expect a TON of posts. I am a little sad I have to give up my beloved YouTube but I'm going to try my best to post videos AND blog while I'm there.

As for everything else, school is school--stressful. I think teachers get together to plot against students and make everything due on the same week. Luckily there is only like, 2 weeks left? 3 weeks left? Something like that. And then LONDON!

Oh and I'm also signed up for Warrior Dash! Haha this is a crazy obstacle course and I know I'm going to hate my life the next day but I'm so excited.

I'm glad school is ending soon and hopefully when that happens I'll be able to pay more attention to this thing (except I don't even know who follows this, haha!) but we'll see how everything goes.

xx,
L

My YouTube channel..

So I finally did it, I started my own YouTube channel (check it here). I have to admit, it has been a little nerve racking! I have always loved everything fashion--clothes, make-up, hair, everything. So using my teaching skills combined with that love, I finally started my own YouTube channel. Granted, I haven't really gotten a lot of hits yet--but I'm not discouraged!! I love it so far and just put up my first tutorial. I hope to start doing more videos, quicker. I just love doing makeup so I don't really care if I'm bad at it--I think it's fun. I'm sure other videos will be put up like Outfit of the Day's, hair tutorials, and things like that but for now I'm taking it slow. I've found a couple other new beauty how-to people who have been really supportive, so that helps. But if anyone who reads this (which is probably limited to Katie, haha) feel like giving me some love, post my channel on your blog! Or just simply go look at it, that's really all I want.

That's all for now. Expect some interesting stories from this weekend--we're going out for my 22nd birthday this Friday and my actualy birthday is Sunday.

Love you all!

X,

Lauren

Two Blonde, An Asian, and a Black girl walk into a Wale concert...

This weekend I had the privilege to visit my best fraaaan, Elena, at her school Salisbury University. Originally, I just went to see me some Wale (D.C. Chillin') but ended up staying just so I could get a real feel for the life at Salisbury.

First off, Wale. Really man, if you're going to wait 3 flippin' hours to come on stage, we will not be friends. But then if you decide to only play 3 songs? We will be enemies.

Oh wait. You did that. YEAH.

Thiiiiiis bitch decided to come on stage high out of his mind, on his phone, and with a posse of 16 people. RIDICULOUS. If I had paid for my ticket, I would have demanded a refund. At that point man, just give up. Good thing you haven't gotten a dime of my money because you pretty much suck.

Other than that, my weekend was awesome. I just needed to rant about this Wale character. RUDE..

(plus, I got called out by ELENA for not updating this thing so really, this is for her..LOVE YOU BOO!)

Urban Decay Naked Palette: Review

Hey everyone! So for a contest on YouTube I had to review the amazing Urban Decay make-up palette. For all you make-up enthusiasts out there, this palette is something you need to buy. I know it's sold out in a lot of places but try and find it because it's worth the $48. And for those just getting started with make-up, it's a palette of all neutral colors which is something new make-up doers should definitely start out with. Check out my review!

Challenge Day..who the hell knows

These challenges are weird. I definitely should have read through the challenges because some of them are dumb. Picture of my night? Picture of my most treasured item? No and no. I also gave up on writing the letters because some were too emotional for me to write. So, new path: only doing the challenges I want to do. I skipped yesterday and I'm skipping today.

Shit, I DO WHAT I WANT!

Destination: LONDON!

That's RIGHT! I'm crossing that big pond and finally making it to London. I've been thinking and hoping and wishing for and about London for years and years and I'm finally, FINALLY, going. I couldn't be more excited. I'm even missing Katy Perry for London! I'm going with UMD and I know it's going to be the time of my life. I've never been out of the country before and my mom keeps reminding me of the movie, "Taken" so I'm a little nervous.

But EXCITED, TOO!

If you have any suggestions of what I should do or see while there when I have free time, PLEASE let me know here or on facebook. I'm open to suggestions. I'm not going until June but I'm sure I'll be prepping for months to make it extra awesome.

I AM SO EXCITED!

Challenge Day #3: Picture of the Cast from your Favorite Show

I couldn't pick just one! So I narrowed it down to 3.

Sons of Anarchy--hot biker boys? Need I say more?

My guilty pleasure. I love a good mystery!

I always have to root for the underdogs! I'd take a slushie for them any day!

Challenge Day #1 -- Letter to your best friend

Dear Best Friend,
You are my person. I pretty much know my life would be in shambles without you and I’m pretty sure you know that too. If you think about it, we weren’t really good friends in high school until Butke’s class (“but it’s real..!). And that’s sad but doesn’t really matter because I still think of our friendship in terms of years and years.
Remember that time we were driving to a game and we almost died? We should have listened to that bridge sign, I guess. I don't know what I can put into this letter that I haven't already said to you. Remember last year when I was a hot mess? Yeah, you helped me lots. And even though I frustrated you (a lot..and I still do) you put up with me; something a lot of people have trouble doing. And remember that time we saw Ke$ha? She should be our third. Hello, tri-pod. We clearly should have  been friends sooner. And it makes me sad we weren't.
I know you'll be there to be my maid of honor, listen to my sex talks, live with me, almost get in car accidents with me, swap clothes with me, spoon me, and sniff my hair (drunk or sober). And you're the only person who would drink Four Loko and Moonshine with me at the same time and suffer the consequences later on.
Thank god you graduate this May and you'll be home. It sucks when you're at school--seriously, all i do is sit at home and write in this blog (clearly). I hope one day we can see Taio Cruz together and dance to "Dynamite" and if I could put a song to this letter it would obviously be "Down" by Jay Sean. Would there be any other choice? I think not. Can't wait until you graduate and you can be my manager when I'm rich and famous. Get ready.

I love you, Best Friend! To the moon and back :)

How to survive when campus is a giant mud puddle...

My fellow Terps, we all know how campus gets when any sort of precipitation falls from the sky. It more or less turns into one giant mud puddle that you have to trek through to get around anywhere. So I've come up with 10 ways to avoid the mess or make use of it. And (hopefully..but sometimes mud is fun) remain mud free But as Pig-Pen says, "dirt don't hurt." STFU, Pig-Pen. Unless used to helps my complexion, mud is gross.

1. Buy really ugly, obnoxious rainboots. --- You know you've thought about it! Buying those really ugly but apparently extremely useful rainboots. Coming in a wide array of colors, you can have your choice of bright purple with pink polka-dots (hello, girl in front of me) or plain black. These over-zealous boots make it seem as if you're trekking through a tsunami. So on the days you decide to break out these bad boys, just know your feet will thank you (but they won't thank you if you don't wear socks. Gross.)

2. Buy a canoe / kayak / rowboat --- When it's really wet on campus and you just cannot bear to ruin your ugly boots, buy some form of floating transportation. You think I jest! Seriously, can you imagine if you saw someone with a row-boat on campus? You'd laugh your ass off, look down and see your muddy feet, and ask for a ride. I suggest going for the rowboat simply because it seems the easiest to get around in. Buy a double and charge for rides!

3.  Try to convince your teacher to cancel class --- Yes, I've done this. And don't judge me. Campus is disgusting when it's wet. It didn't work, in case you're wondering.

4. Take a mudbath! --- I've always wondered what it's like to take a mud bath ever since I saw it on T.V. It seems pretty enjoyable. Soaking in a bath filled with lovely mud? Nom! So strip in the middle of campus (don't act like that hasn't happened and make sure people are watching) and hop in a puddle! And enjoy!

5. (while we're at it...) Mud-Mask! --- Much like the mud bath, slap some of that fresh mud onto your face and call it a day. Sit back, relax, and let your pores fill with that muddy goodness.

6. Have a gentleman lay down his coat for you...several times --- who says chivalry is dead? Not me! I think if you could get a gentleman (or numerous given the extent of the mud on campus) to drop his jacket down to avoid one of those puddles, you'll be fine.

7. Learn how to fly or teleport --- Life would truly be easier if we could fly. Or teleport. Or both.

8. Build a portable moat --- A moat is incredibly useful when it comes to crossing gross things like mud. So grab your friends and get building!

9. Connect with your inner child --- Look at the mud puddle as your inner child. Then jump in it. You heard me! JUMP INTO THAT BABY AND YELL! Now, didn't that feel good?

10. Just don't go --- Who wants to go to school anyway?

Be careful out there, Terps! And if all else fails, follow one of my 10 suggestions and you'll make it out alive!

Finally...

I've always wanted to start a blog, but never did. I usually have a ton of shit floating around in my head that I should probably write down but never do.

So, here I am.

I actually created this account months ago with the hope of posting tutorials on how to do makeup looks, but never got around to it. And that was months ago.

That's another thing, I love doing makeup. I love everything about makeup. I think it's kind of like being an artist but on a face. You create beautiful (and sometimes disastrous) looks and it's always fun. So along with my ramblings and rants, I'm going to post things like that to.

And maybe, if my best friend makes me grow some balls, I'll post the numerous videos I have of myself covering a wide array of acoustic songs by different artists from Taylor Swift to Neon Trees.

Poem of the Day

"i like my body"
by e.e. cummings
i like my body when it is with your
body. It is so quite a new thing.
Muscles better and nerves more.
i like your body. i like what it does,
i like its hows. i like to feel the spine
of your body and its bones, and the trembling
-firm-smooth ness and which i will
again and again and again
kiss, i like kissing this and that of you,
i like, slowly stroking the, shocking fuzz
of your electric fur, and what-is-it comes
over parting flesh . . . . And eyes big love-crumbs,

and possibly i like the thrill

of under me you quite so new.
